Updates related to Educator Preparation Program Management
Reminder: Commendations Celebrations We extend congratulations to all programs awarded commendations during the February SBEC meeting. Every year, the SBEC recognizes EPPs with commendations in four categories: Rigorous and Robust Preparation, Preparing the Educators Texas Needs, Preparing Educators for Long Term Success, and Innovative Educator Preparation. For more information about commendations and the full list of programs that received commendations, please visit the Program Provider Commendations Page.
For the Innovative Educator Preparation commendation, the SBEC recognized EPPs that engaged in innovative development of EPP faculty and staff, field supervisors, and/or cooperating and mentor teachers, in alignment with current research and best practices. Dallas College and Tarleton State University received commendations in this area.
We take this space to highlight questions that we have heard from .
Q: Why do the Legal Authority and Backup Legal Authority at an EPP also have to establish themselves as the Primary and Alternate Approvers respectively?
A: Every EPP must have a Legal Authority and may have a Backup Legal Authority. These staff are either in the Business Partner Directory (BPD), if a university or privately-owned EPP, or AskTED, if the EPP is a district, Education Service Center (ESC), or charter school. The Legal Authority and Backup Legal Authority must establish themselves as Primary and Alternate Approver because it is through approver status how everyone else associated with the EPP is able to gain ECOS for Entities access.
Q: What happens if the Legal Authority or Backup Legal Authority do not request Primary Approver or Alternate Approver status?
A: If the Legal Authority and Backup Legal Authority do not request Primary and Alternate Approver status and you have new staff at your EPP, the new staff cannot gain access to ECOS for Entities. All accesses go to the Primary and Alternate Approver for approval before coming to TEA for approval. If there is no one at the EPP to approve the request, the request disappears after 5 days and the staff must reapply. If your EPP has someone who is no longer with your EPP identified as an approver, when staff requests ECOS for Entities access there is not anyone to approve the request.
