PEIMS and Accountability FAQ
How is PEIMS data used to determine Accelerated Tester status?
To identify accelerated testers, data is reviewed to find students who have completed a STAAR EOC at or above the Approaches Grade Level in Algebra I, English II, and/or Biology prior to grade 9. For 2024 accountability, accelerated testers have either:
(1) taken an Algebra I, English II, and/or Biology EOC assessment prior to enrolling in grade 9 and earned Approaches Grade Level or above, or
(2) earned course credit for a course with a corresponding EOC assessment in Spring or Summer 2020, based on PEIMS data, prior to enrolling in grade 9, to account for students that did not take an EOC test in the spring or summer of 2020 because of COVID testing waivers.
The EOC assessment requirement was waived for the course in which the student was enrolled during spring 2020 if the student earned course credit for the school year, including summer 2020, as communicated in the COVID-19 Assessment Guidance.
PEIMS data will indicate a student earned credit for a course with a corresponding EOC assessment (e.g. Algebra I, Biology, or English II) if the following criteria are satisfied:
Please note that accelerated students who earned course credit and did not take an EOC test due to the COVID testing waiver as described above are still required to take the ACT or SAT in high school to fulfill federal testing requirements for 2024 accountability.
