Updates related to Educator Preparation Program Management
New: 2022-2023 ASEP Technology Fee Collection Complete A big “Thank you” to EPPs for ensuring the payment of the ASEP Fee for 2022-2023. All EPPs have now paid and been recorded. We here at TEA had some new processes, and we know that some EPPs also had some processes which added complexity to this annual process. Thank you for working together to submit and track these payments. We encourage you to mark your calendars now for mid-October 2024, when we plan to issue next year’s invoices.
We take this space to highlight questions that we have heard from .
Q: Could you please provide an example of a non-teacher? Would that be a paraprofessional?
A: A non-Teacher candidate is someone seeking School Counselor EC-12, Educational Diagnostician EC-12, Principal as Instructional Leader (PIL) EC-12, Reading Specialist EC-12, School Librarian EC-12, or Superintendent EC-12 certification. A paraprofessional is someone who holds an Educational Aide I, II, or III certificate. Related to requirements for educator preparation programs, an Educational Aide is not a Teacher or non-Teacher. Becoming an Educational Aide in Texas information is found on the TEA website. Additional preparation and certification requirements for Student Services Certificates are located in Title 19 Part 7 Chapter 239, Principal as Instructional Leader (PIL) Requirements are located in Title 19 Part 7 Chapter 241 Subchapter A, and Superintendent Requirements are located in Title 19 Part 7 Chapter 242.
