Performance Reporting

To the Superintendent Addressed:

The 2022–23 Texas Academic Performance Reports (TAPR) for your district and each campus in your district are now available on the TAPR website in PDF format. TAPR data are also available by ESC region and for the entire state. The TAPR Glossary and TAPR Guidelines are also available.

The TAPR Glossary contains definitions and methodologies for all items found in the TAPR. The TAPR Guidelines are intended to help districts fulfill their legal responsibilities regarding the TAPR and annual report of their educational performance. The TAPR is also available through the Texas Education Agency Login (TEAL) Accountability application. The data are masked in TEAL and on the public website. The agency does not produce unmasked versions. Next week, a batch PDF of the reports including all campuses in a district will be made available on TEAL. The batch version as provided on TEAL may be released to the public. This initial TAPR is published without AF ratings, Distinction Designations, or Special Education Determination Status. The issuance of the AF ratings under 2023 rule is pending and subject to change.

About the TAPR

The PDF version of the TAPR includes only major data points and is designed to allow districts to fulfill their public notification requirements while the Texas Performance Reporting System (TPRS) provides additional data in a comprehensive system and is updated on a rolling basis as data becomes available. The TAPR will not be mailed to districts, but it can be saved or printed directly from TEAL or the TEA public website.

Statute requires that each school system’s board of trustees hold a public hearing to discuss the district’s annual report. Commissioner rule indicates this hearing for public discussion of the Texas Academic Performance Report must be held within 90 calendar days of receiving the PDF TAPR. Holiday breaks do not count toward the 90 days. Within two weeks following the public meeting, each district must widely publish its annual report, including posting it on the district website and other public places. The 90 calendar days begin December 15, 2023. For more information on the statute and commissioner rule please see the TEA - Requirement for Posting of Performance FAQ webpage.

If you have questions about these reports, please contact your ESC or the Performance Reporting Division at (512) 463-9704 or performance.reporting@tea.texas.gov.

Thank you.
