Updates related to Educator Preparation and Certification

New: Notice of Name Change for Approved Charter School
The name of the approved charter school Promise Community Schools (CDN: 101853) has been changed to BakerRipley Community Schools (CDN: 101853). The name has been updated on the LEA dropdown in ECOS Entity screens. This should not impact candidates placed on this campus; however, EPPs will need to know the correct name to select from the LEA list when recommending certificates and creating clinical experience records.

FAQ

We take this space to highlight questions that we have heard from EPPs

Q: What are the requirements for a teacher candidate who receives a virtual formal observation by the field supervisor and when must the post-observation conference occur?

A: Each virtual formal observation must be at least 45 minutes in length, conducted by the field supervisor, followed by a post-observation conference within 72 hours of the educational activity, and conducted through the use of an unedited electronic transmission, video, or technology-based method. Reference 19 TAC §228.35(g)(2)(A-D).

Q: Must an observation for a teacher candidate that was conducted in-person also include a post-observation conference that is conducted within 72 hours?

A: 19 TAC §228.35(g) does not provide guidance on the timing of the post-observation conference that follows an in-person observation. It is a best practice for the field supervisor to conduct the post-observation conference as soon as possible following the observation to provide immediate, meaningful feedback to support the candidate's growth as a teacher. The post-conference does not have to be conducted on the candidate’s clinical teaching or internship site. Field supervision requirements for teacher candidates are in 19 TAC §228.35(g).
