A–F Accountability

Proposed Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) Plan Amendment

As part of the 2023 A–F System Refresh, the Texas Education Agency (TEA) submitted an amendment to the state’s Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) plan to adjust the methodology within the Closing the Gaps domain. This amendment was approved by the U.S. Department of Education on August 7, 2023.

The agency updated federal student group targets and set them by school type: elementary, middle, and high school. The targets are available in Appendix A on TEA’s ESSA webpage.

Upcoming PEIMS Snapshot: October 27, 2023

PEIMS Snapshot determines the accountability subset of assessment results that are used to determine campus accountability ratings. Only assessment results for those students enrolled in the same campus on both the snapshot date (the last Friday in October) and the testing date are used to determine campus performance. Please see the PEIMS Data Submission Timelines for further details.

December STAAR Administration

EOC Retester Flags

December State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR®) end-of-course (EOC) retester and eligibility flags for applicable students that were active in the Test Information Distribution Engine (TIDE) by October 5, 2023, have been set. District personnel may verify this information in TIDE. Eligibility for first time testers must still be set by district personnel prior to the administration.

Registering OOS and OOD Examinees

District personnel must register out-of-school (OOS) and out-of-district (OOD) examinees for the December 2023 STAAR administration between October 16 and October 26, 2023. The STAAR OOS and OOD Examinee Registration Form will be available on the Other Testing Resources page of the Texas Assessment website.

PEIMS Updates

To improve security regarding student data and protect personally identifiable information, Public Education Information Management System (PEIMS) IDs are now masked in TIDE when the student’s PEIMS ID is also his or her social security number. TIDE users will now see asterisks (****) or bullet points (●●●●) in place of most digits. Functionality for adding or deleting PEIMS IDs remains unchanged for district and campus users. District testing personnel may continue to upload PEIMS IDs in student registration and additional student field files.
