The new health education and physical education TEKS became effective August 1, 2022 and will be implemented beginning with the 2022-2023 academic year.
The new TEKS for health education and physical education can be found in the Texas Administrative Code (TAC) Chapter 115, Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) for Health Education, and TAC Chapter 116, TEKS for Physical Education.

Please note that teaching the Parenting and Paternity Awareness (p.a.p.a.) curriculum, as referenced in Texas Education Code (TEC) §28.002(p), is still a requirement for school districts and open-enrollment charter schools teaching health at the high school level. For more information about the p.a.p.a. curriculum, please visit the p.a.p.a website. If you have questions about the curriculum, please email papa@oag.texas.gov.
As a reminder, other requirements related to the TEKS for health education can be found in TEC §28.002 subsections (r), (s), and (z). Please review the health TEKS for this information.

Please note that the deadline for this year’s school health survey will be May 26, 2023, and the fitness assessment deadline will be June 9, 2023. Please be on the lookout for more information in the coming months.

The Texas Education Code (TEC) §38.0141 requires the commissioner of education to complete a report on physical education provided by each school district and publish the report on the agency's Internet website. The report, as well as the 2021-2022 school heath survey results can be found by visiting https://tea.texas.gov/texas-schools/health-safety-discipline/coordinated-school-health.
Procuring Local Foods for Child Nutrition Programs Guide
The United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) revised Procuring Local Foods for Child Nutrition Guide is now available. The guide provides an overview of federal procurement principles. It covers topics related to sourcing and purchasing local foods for child nutrition program operators.
