Message to Superintendents

Ever wonder what superintendents who have recently engaged in Lone Star Governance say about their experience?

Check out this video in which three superintendents explain what they would tell other superintendents who are considering Lone Star Governance.

More videos are available on the Lone Star Governance playlist of the TEA YouTube channel.

How to Get Involved in Lone Star Governance

We have many Lone Star Governance workshops scheduled for July through September. Several of these still have room for another participating board. Upcoming LSG workshops are advertised on the LSG home page here.

If any of these dates align with the availability of your board members and superintendent, please contact us at lsg@tea.texas.gov for more information about registering for the workshop.

This Month's Frequently Asked Question

If our team of eight attends a Lone Star Governance training together, do we get credit for other training requirements as well?

Yes, when all trustees and the superintendent attend an LSG Workshop, trustees earn credit to satisfy training requirements for annual team building, bi-annual Evaluating and Improving Student Performance, and additional annual framework hours, in addition to earning a school board LSG Certificate. Superintendents also receive credit towards their ongoing professional development requirements.

The time spent training as a team of eight may also make the team eligible to receive a State Board of Education commendation for attending the team building and additional framework hours trainings together. More information about the State Board of Education commendation is available on the TEA website here: https://tea.texas.gov/texas-schools/school-boards/school-board-member-training
