Weighted Tiers Funding and Autocoding Look-Up Tables

The 2021-22 CTE Courses Weighted Tiers funding sheet is now available on the TEA’s CTE website. The file contains the tiered funding weights for each active high school CTE course. Additionally, the CTE Autocoding Look-Up Tables have been posted on the TSDS website. The workbook contains CTE courses eligible for high school credit, both active and retired, for the past seven years. LEAs and student information systems (SIS) vendors may find this resource helpful as background information or for planning purposes.

CTE Administrator Professional Development Update

TEA is pleased to offer a series of professional learning modules for new administrators (0-5 years) that develop their capacity to facilitate quality Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs. Participants will gain valuable knowledge, skills, and strategies in four key content areas: data-driven decision making, partnerships, program design, and resources. All four professional development training sessions are offered at no cost to the LEA. Please contact your Education Service Center (ESC) CTE Specialist for registration details.

CTE Counselor Professional Development Update

The CTE Counselor Professional Development, sponsored by the Texas Education Agency, will host two regional convenings starting this spring. Module One: CTE Programs – An Infrastructure for College, Career, and Military Readiness (CCMR) provides counselors with the opportunity to examine how strong CTE programs can support all students as they prepare for postsecondary success. Participants will explore the components of approved CTE programs of study, including coursework, work-based learning opportunities, and industry-based certifications, and understand how these relate to the individual planning components of a comprehensive counseling program. Participants will review the relationship of CTE and programs of study to federal and state legislation (including Perkins V, HB5 - Endorsements, HB3 - Outcomes Bonus Funding, and SB179 - Counseling Duties) and other initiatives. At the conclusion of this module, participants will have a deeper understanding of the value of CTE programs and be better equipped to work with administrators to create the local infrastructure for CCMR driven by data. (NOTE: This module is aligned with the Data-Driven Decision Making and Program Design modules for administrators) Module Two: Effective Advising for CTE Programs – Ensuring Access and Equity of CCMR will help prepare counselors for their crucial roles in supporting students’ postsecondary success. Participants will identify potential barriers that limit access to CTE programs and review advising strategies and resources to ensure accessible and equitable CTE programs. Participants will review the Perkins V definitions for special populations and explore success outcomes from strong CTE programs, such as college and career readiness, employability skills, and mental health wellness. At the end of this module, participants will recognize potential barriers to accessible and equitable CTE programs and devise plans to eliminate existing barriers.

Both professional development training sessions are offered at no cost to the LEA. Please contact your Education Service Center (ESC) CTE Specialist for registration details.

Career and Technical Education Teacher Professional Development Update

The CTE Teacher Professional Development project, sponsored by the Texas Education Agency, will host four regional convenings starting this spring. Each regional convening is designed to provide CTE teachers with skills and strategies to help students be successful through enhanced classroom management skills, better instructional strategies, understanding different learning styles, and a deep dive into the TEKS and program standards.

The CTE Teacher PD developers at ESC 20 recognize the effect COVID has had on each classroom, including the strain that the substitute shortage across the state has placed on school districts and charters. The design of these regional convenings was made in a concerted effort to shorten travel while still providing quality professional development. We hope you can join us as we partner with you in your region.

The Comprehensive Local Needs Assessment and Perkins Application Timeline

The Comprehensive Local Needs Assessment (CLNA) opened on February 7 and will close on May 6, 2022. The CLNA must be submitted before the LEA has access to the Perkins Grant that opens on June 16, 2022, in eGrants and closes September 2, 2022. The CLNA is located in TEAL in the Special Collections tab. The Perkins V Summary report and the Perkins V Supplemental report required to complete the CLNA are located in the Career and Technical Education Reports (CTER) in TEAL. The Labor Market Information (LMI) data is located on the CTE page in the CTE Updates section and labeled LWDA Labor Market Information with the CLNA Guidebook that is also a valuable tool for completing the CLNA.
