TEA's Statewide STEM Professional Development
TEA is excited to announce during the summer of 2022, each ESC across Texas will be offering K-12 STEM Leadership and Teacher trainings to support STEM education in Texas. Check local ESC workshop catalogs for the dates of these trainings.
STEM Leadership Training
This two-day immersive professional development prepares campus administrators to shape, support, and sustain STEM initiatives within their districts and campuses. Participants will learn by doing, engaging directly in the instructional approaches most critical to the STEM endeavor: project-based learning, design-based challenges, and computational thinking. Working backward from a model vision for STEM education, the session culminates with leaders collaboratively planning for real-life implementation of STEM programming.

STEM Teacher Training
This three-day professional development prepares teachers for successful implementation of STEM instruction in their classrooms by immersing them directly in the role of STEM learner, engaging first-hand in high-impact STEM practices such as project-based learning, design-based challenges, and computational thinking. To better understand the role STEM plays in education, educators will make connections between the Texas STEM framework, STEM fluency skills, and contemporary workforce demands. Most importantly, educators will begin the work of embedding these STEM strategies into what matters most - their daily work with students.

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has a long history of inspiring American students to reach for the stars. By engaging students in real life design challenges, teachers provide learning opportunities that have lifelong impacts. NASA’s Artemis mission is inspiring students, in partnership with LEGO Education, by offering free Build to Launch Curriculum to schools nationwide, giving students a chance to learn from and interact with our nation’s top aeronautics leaders as they progress towards a first launch in 2022. This exciting mission offers students meaningful, hands-on experiences that aim to inspire the STEM workforce of the future. Please join the Department of education and NASA to learn more about the Artemis mission, their collaboration with LEGO Education, and how to spark joy in your classrooms.

Paint Rock ISD: Mobile Lab STEM Night
On March 22nd, Learning Undefeated and Paint Rock Independent School District partnered together to host a Community STEM Night for over 50 participants. Local families explored the Texas Mobile STEM Lab and completed three activities while onboard. Families discovered the world of virtual reality, investigated density with homemade lava lamps, and felt like “real scientists” when completing a micropipette challenge. Afterward, families gathered in the cafeteria to complete an engineering design challenge. The night was not only educational and fun but a great way to spend quality family time. Thank you to Paint Rock schools for allowing the Learning Undefeated team to host an incredible evening.

Stanton ISD: Elementary School
March was a busy month for the Texas Mobile STEM Laboratory. One stop this month was Stanton Elementary School in Stanton ISD. The mobile lab provided STEM experiences to 406 students ranging from 1st grade to 5th grade. The students learned about the engineering design process by completing design challenges anchored in the science TEKS.
Campuses interested in bringing these K-8 STEM experiences to their campuses can download the free Texas Mobile STEM Lab lessons from the webpage.
