Evaluating and Improving Student Outcomes (EISO) Training for 2022

Over the past several months, Lone Star Governance staff have been at work updating training materials to align with new laws from the 87th Texas Legislature (2021) and add information on several other agency programs and how they integrate with board of trustee responsibilities. In November, we began hosting our updated EISO 2022 training using these new materials. This training-of-trainers equips attendees not only to train school boards on how to evaluate and improve student outcomes, but also to educate trustees on other agency programs to better serve their student groups, districts, and communities.

Training sessions will be held remotely and are scheduled for the second Monday of each month from February through December. You can find a date and sign up for a session on the TEA website here: https://tea.texas.gov/lsg.

News and Notes: 2022–23 Exemplar Cohort

Earlier this month, TEA extended an invitation for districts and charters to submit a letter of interest for the fourth exemplar cohort. Members of exemplar cohorts receive reimbursement for their LSG-related expenses and assist the agency with the planning and execution of the LSG initiative.

The letters of interest are due by 6:00 p.m. CST on Friday, February 25, 2022. TEA expects to announce the cohort membership in late March.

The announcement and letter of interest are available now on the TEA website.

More information on the Lone Star Governance Exemplar Cohorts is available on the LSG Exemplar Cohort page.

LSG Field Testimonial

Earlier this month, the Frankston ISD board of trustees experienced a Lone Star Governance workshop for the first time. Check out our new video in which five of the trustees give their impression of Lone Star Governance and the workshop itself.

This Month's Frequently Asked Question

Do you have any information about the new school safety training requirement for school board trustees?

HB 690, passed by the 87th Texas Legislature, Regular Session, added a new section to state law (Texas Education Code, §11.159(b-1)) requiring the State Board of Education (SBOE) to develop—in coordination with the Texas School Safety Center— a training on school safety for school board trustees. In November 2021, the SBOE adopted the new school safety training.

Currently, the training requirement is expected to take effect at the beginning of the 2022–23 school year.

Look for more information about the training in the February issue of This Month in Lone Star Governance.
