Abbott Labs extends expiration date on the BinaxNOW COVID-19 testing kits
Superintendents:
TEA is writing to alert districts to an update that Abbott© has provided regarding the expiration dates on its BinaxNOW™ COVID-19 testing kits; the attached letter provides complete details.
Their letter notifies the public that the BinaxNOW™ COVID-19 Ag Card, part number 195-000, may now have a longer than labeled product expiration date. As they stated in the letter, “All BinaxNOW COVID-19 Ag Card Kits currently have a fifteen-month expiration date” from the date of manufacture. A listing of BinaxNOW™ COVID-19 Ag Card Kit lot numbers, which qualify for this expiration extension, can be found in the attached letter. The attachment lists the kit lot number, currently labeled kit expiration, and new kit expiration date.
If any of your district schools are in possession of tests with this part number, please have them refer to the kit expiration listing in the attachment to see if their remaining tests are still approved for use.
Districts that returned expired test kits to the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM), which have now had their expiration dates extended, may request those test kits back.
For school systems with test kits provided by TDEM that qualify for extended use, the test results should continue to be reported in the TxRapidTest app.
