Evaluating and Improving Student Outcomes (EISO) Training for 2022

Over the past several months, Lone Star Governance staff have been at work updating training materials to align with new laws from the 87th Texas Legislature (2021) and add information on several other agency programs and how they integrate with board of trustee responsibilities. In November, we began hosting our updated EISO 2022 training using these new materials. This training-of-trainers equips attendees not only to train school boards on how to evaluate and improve student outcomes, but also to educate trustees on other agency programs to better serve their student groups, districts, and communities.

Training sessions will be held remotely and are scheduled for the second Monday of each month from February through December. You can find a date and sign up for a session on the TEA website here: https://tea.texas.gov/lsg.

News and Notes: 2022–23 Exemplar Cohort

In January 2022, TEA will extend an invitation for districts to submit a letter of interest for the fourth exemplar cohort. Members of exemplar cohorts receive reimbursement for their LSG-related expenses and assist the agency with the planning and execution of the LSG initiative.

The letters of interest will be due in February, and TEA is expected to announce the cohort membership in March. Watch TEA's To the Administrator Addressed Correspondence page for the invitation.

More information on the Lone Star Governance Exemplar Cohorts is available on the LSG Exemplar Cohort page.

This Month's Frequently Asked Question

Are school board trustees still required to take cybersecurity training? We have heard it said that the training is no longer required for school board trustees.

Yes, school board trustees are still required to take cybersecurity training every year. The requirement for school board trustees to complete this training is established in Texas Government Code, §2054.5191. Each school district determines which training is most appropriate for their trustees from a list published by the Texas Department of Information Resources.

For more information on the required cybersecurity training, please see the Department of Information Resources Cybersecurity Awareness Training web page.
