What’s New in Performance Reporting

A–F Accountability

Accountability data tables and student listings were published last Friday in TEAL Accountability for approved district and ESC users. The data tables and student listings contain the data used to calculate raw scores in each of the three domains.

Masked accountability reports were released on and on TEA’s 2021 accountability page on Monday, and accountability data downloads were released in TEAL Accountability and on the 2021 accountability page today.

Information gleaned from the data helps pinpoint areas where students need accelerated learning opportunities. Similarly, participation data provides demographic information about who did and did not take the STAAR in light of COVID-19 learning conditions and should be considered in context when reviewing the results. While direct comparisons with STAAR data from previous years may not be appropriate because of varying participation rates and shifts in instructional settings due to COVID-19, the data provide an important temperature check that allows Texas districts to track and address student recovery in the short and long term.

Local Accountability System

The Local Accountability Guide and Frequently Asked Questions provide information about plan requirements and example components. Both documents can be found on the local accountability webpage.

Districts wishing to learn more about the local accountability system and how to develop a district local accountability plan can participate in a 45-minute overview webinar with time for Q & A.

Registration links are available for upcoming webinar dates in September. The timeline for districts wishing to develop a local accountability plan is posted on our webpage and the Notice of Interest form will be available in mid-September.

Assessment Scoring and Reporting

As mentioned in previous communications, the deadline to submit correction requests, including changes to student identification information, Public Education Information Management System (PEIMS) ID, and County-District-Campus codes, score code and language changes, rescores, resolutions, and any scoring investigations for STAAR to the ETS Support Center was July 31, 2021. Requests outside of this corrections window will not be processed.

As a part of the contract transition, ETS provided all necessary STAAR, STAAR Alternate 2, Texas English Language Proficiency Assessment System (TELPAS), and TELPAS Alternate score data to CAI. Please note, CAI cannot generate updated STAAR Report Cards.

For questions or help with accessing and interpreting STAAR results, districts and parents can email or call (512) 463-9704.

Extra and Co-Curricular Project

The Extra and Co-Curricular project (ECC) was enacted by the 85th Texas Legislature to study the feasibility of incorporating student participation in ECC activities as part of the campus and district performance evaluation process. The ECC Advisory Committee, comprised of more than 30 district, community, and organizational representatives from across the state, was established to review existing research and explore options. Since fall 2019, the committee has developed an initial list of possible indicators and gathered limited data from the 2019–20 and 2020–21 school years. Studying ECC participation is a first step to better understanding current levels of access, expanding definitions of student performance, and increasing awareness of the impact of ECC activities on student development.

As schools are returning to more typical levels of operation this year, the ECC committee is seeking additional districts for participation in a voluntary collection of student extra & co-curricular data during the 2021–22 school. Resources are available to assist districts with the data collection process or districts may use their own systems. Gathering data from an increased number of districts representing a range of district types helps to ensure the data collected provides an accurate picture of student participation across the state.

For more information, the ECC Invitation to Districts and ECC Data Collection Overview provide brief summaries of the project scope and timeline, including district time requirements. For additional questions, including available resources and how to get started, please contact Linda Johnson, ECC Project Coordinator,

Did You Know?

The Texas Success Initiative assessment (TSIA) 2.0 diagnostic will be considered for College, Career, and Military Readiness in 2022. Initially the Performance Reporting weekly bulletin indicated that it would not be considered; the final decision to include it was driven by feedback from the field and the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. For additional information about how the TSIA1 and TSIA2 will be included in 2022, click here.
