High Impact Tutoring Toolkit
Early data indicates that school closures and disruptions in 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 academic years are likely to result in unfinished learning for many students statewide, making multi-year recovery and acceleration supports even more crucial. As local education agencies (LEAs) consider how to best facilitate learning acceleration, many are considering high impact tutoring, as there is strong evidence that high impact tutoring is one of the most effective ways to increase learning gains for students.
The High Impact Tutoring Toolkit is designed to help districts think through key pieces of program design and make connections to other helpful resources. While this toolkit is not exhaustive, it outlines the foundational principles and key considerations that all LEAs should consider when implementing a high impact tutoring program. This toolkit includes:
- Sample lessons and activities
- Tutor job descriptions
- Tutor training topics
- Program cost calculator
The High Impact Tutoring webinar series provides an overview of key elements of implementing high impact tutoring at your LEA, as well as an introduction to TEA-funded supports your LEA could benefit from to support your high impact tutoring program.
Webinar Session #1: High Impact Tutoring: Introduction & TEA Supports (Recording)
Webinar Session #2: High Impact Tutoring: Program Design (Recording)
Webinar Session #3: High Impact Tutoring: Program Implementation (Recording)
More information regarding the Learning Acceleration Framework and High-Impact Tutoring Implementation workshop series can be found on TEA’s Strong Start page. If you have any questions, please contact: TexasTutoring@tea.texas.gov.
Statewide STEM Leadership and Educator Training Opportunities:
STEM Leadership Training: Texas Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math Academy (T-STEM) leadership teams are encouraged to attend the two-day immersive professional development that prepares STEM administrators to shape, support, and sustain STEM initiatives within their district or campus aligned to TEA’s STEM Framework. Leaders will learn by doing, engaging directly in the instructional approaches most critical to a successful STEM Program: project-based learning, design-based challenges, and computational thinking. Leadership teams will learn about the four STEM models and the vision for STEM education in Texas while utilizing the TEA STEM Toolkit. Each Education Service Center (ESC) will roll out this training during the summer of 2021. This training is critical for all T-STEM campuses and is aligned with the Texas STEM Framework.
STEM Educator Training: K-12 educators will engage in this three-day professional development that prepares teachers for successful implementation of STEM instruction in their classrooms by immersing them directly in the role of STEM learner. They will experience first-hand high impact STEM practices such as project-based learning, design-based challenges, and computational thinking. To better understand the role STEM plays in education, educators will make connections among the Texas STEM Framework, STEM fluency skills, and contemporary workforce demands. Most importantly, educators will begin the work of embedding these STEM strategies into what matters most - their daily work with students.
Registration is now open. Visit TEA’s Texas EcosySTEM homepage to identify and reach out to the STEM lead at your ESC to learn about local workshop dates and to register.
