District Communication Toolkit: Accessing STAAR Scores for Families

Texas Assessment

Notice to Districts

Road to Recovery. Starting June 28th, visit TexasAssessment.gov to get detailed information about your child's STAAR test results.

Dear District Leaders and Testing Coordinators,

The Texas Education Agency (TEA) has heard from districts that there is a need to better prioritize communication with all families about the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR®) and how they can access and use the test results to help their students recover any lost ground in learning.

Based on parent research, we have created a suite of templates to help you communicate to families about their child’s STAAR results this year. This includes information about:

  • How families can access their results, whether that’s through your district’s parent portal, the paper STAAR report card, or TexasAssessment.gov;
  • Understanding the purpose and uses of this year’s STAAR results; and
  • How they can use the STAAR results to co-create a learning plan for their child.

This email contains a toolkit with templateintended to be customized by you and your teams. We hope these tools are helpful to you as you develop your own communication plans and messages. To access the toolkit materials, click the orange Download Toolkit button or click hereThe Toolkit Summary outlines specifically what templates are included and how you can use them.

Please contact the Performance Reporting Division if there are any questions and/or additional templates that would be helpful to you as you work to communicate this meaningful information to families in your district. There is no doubt that schools and families will need to work together in new and deeper ways as we navigate the challenges of recovery — the large-scale return to in-person instruction and the impact of disrupted learning on children’s social, emotional and academic development.

Thank you for all you do for our students.

Best,

Texas Education Agency
