Strategic Support Plan (SSP) and Corrective Action Plan (CAP) Resources

As local education agencies (LEAs) begin to engage in the development of the strategic support plan (SSP) and/or a corrective action plan (CAP) to address Results Driven Accountability (RDA) framework interventions and/or State Performance Plan (SPP) Indicator noncompliance, the Department of Review and Support would like to ensure LEAs have access to resources to assist with the development of these monitoring activities. The SSP template, SSP quick reference, and CAP template is available on the Ascend Texas application located in the Texas Education Agency Login (TEAL). You can access TEAL on TEA's Strategic Support Plan webpage

Please visit the Department of Review and Support webpage to receive up to date monitoring information and access resources to support LEAs engaging in Differentiated Monitoring and Support activities.

Texas Behavior Support Initiative (TBSI)

The Texas Behavior Support Initiative (TBSI) is a state-level training that meets the requirements mandated by Texas Education Code §37.0021 and Texas Administrative Code §89.1053. TBSI provides foundational knowledge for the use of positive behavior interventions and supports for all students, including students with disabilities. TBSI meets legislative requirements related to procedures for the use of restraint and time-out and provides a framework for sharing a wide range of foundational-level behavior strategies and prevention-based schoolwide, classroom, and individual interventions.

The TBSI course has been reformatted and transferred from the Region 4 website to a Canvas course hosted by Tiered Interventions Using Evidence-Based Research (TIER). Please note, while the course is open and active, there will still be periodic updates that may affect access.

Nonpublic/Off-Campus Day and Residential 2020-2021 Updates and Resources

The Nonpublic Team has created a suite of resources for LEAs to utilize when students in special education require nonpublic, off-campus day, residential, and/or 18+programming. As a reminder, these placements require notification to the TEA within 30 calendar days of placement. New resources include a quarterly update bulletin, updated programming guidance, general overview resources, reintegration planning guidance, and instructional videos for submitting notification applications.  Our October quarterly update is live and full of beginning of the year resources and reminders!

Special Education Technical Assistance Guides Survey

During the 2019-2020 school year, TEA’s Special Education Technical Assistance (TA) Team posted several TA guides on the TEA website on the “TEA Recent Guidance” web page. The TA guides are designed to pull together information, resources, and best practices in one easy-to-navigate location. The first topics in the TA guides series covered: Child Find, IEP Development, and Section 504.

The TA team would like to gather feedback from the field to help us develop and refine future TA guides. Please take 5 minutes or less to complete this survey and let us know what you think of the existing guides and what topics you would like to see us cover next.
