 Coronavirus Updates

TEA Commissioner Mike Morath is providing weekly updates to Texas Superintendents each Thursday. Summary debriefs are linked at the bottom of the TEA's Coronavirus webpage. A summary of the Thursday, August 20th call is provided below:

1.  TEA is working with the Department of State Health Services (DSHS) to establish a data collection method to report information on Covid-19 cases in Texas schools. The TEA will be sending a survey on this system to select districts on Friday, Aug. 21.

2.  The English learner identification assessment (preLAS/LAS Links) can be administered in person or virtually, beginning on Aug. 17th. Please see the Test Administration Guidelines and the July 28th Texas Tuesday letter for details. All 2019-20 reclassifications must be complete by the existing fall PEIMS snapshot date. If this cannot be done, the student will remain identified as an EL for the 2020-21 school year.

3.  Two TAAs will soon be posted. The first will announce the Blended Learning Grant Program established under HB 3 to support remote instruction work. The second is related to diagnostic student performance that will compliment interim assessments. Both will be posted to the TEA's To The Administrator Addressed Correspondence page.

Please visit the TEA's Coronavirus webpage for timely and comprehensive information.
