Welcome back to school! This is a year like no other with unprecedented circumstances. The Texas Education Agency (TEA) continues to work with the Office of the Governor, Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) and the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) to coordinate and plan the state’s response to COVID-19. TEA’s role in these efforts is to help coordinate the flow of information from the state to districts, help districts solve problems, and provide guidance that will aid in districts’ decision-making. The most up-to-date TEA COVID guidance and information can be found at this page on the TEA website: Coronavirus (COVID-19) Support and Guidance
As you navigate the new normal for school, please keep in mind the TEA CTE team members are available to answer questions regarding program content guidance.
CTE curriculum resources are available on the Texas CTE Resource Center website: https://www.txcte.org/
The Curriculum Standards and Student Support Division has recently published updates to the Innovative Courses webpage for the upcoming 2020–2021 school year. Updates include—
- a revised list of all currently approved courses;
- new course options in fine arts and social studies; and
- newly approved career and technical education (CTE) courses to address Programs of Study.
Complete course descriptions that include content standards, recommended resources, and educator certification requirements are available to download from the content area pages. As a reminder, school districts must have the approval of their local board of trustees to offer approved innovative courses, and innovative courses are eligible to meet state elective credit only and may not be used to fulfill any other specific graduation requirement.
