The new technical assistance Individualized Education Program (IEP) Development Guide has just been released as part of a series of technical assistance guides, including Child Find and Evaluation and Section 504.
This guide was written to assist educators involved in the IEP process and provides practical information as well as information about best practices. It guides individuals through the IEP process by reviewing the requirements of the law, determining why those requirements are essential, and deciding how each requirement can best be implemented.
Missed learning opportunities while wearing cloth masks will impact some student’s access to public education. Consideration should be given for some educators to wear face shields to allow visual facial cues to be displayed while successfully maintaining physical distancing. Face shields provide access to speech reading and visual cues while simultaneously providing protection to the wearer of the face shield.
The National Association of State Directors of Special Education (NASDSE) has partnered with the Early Childhood Technical Assistance (ECTA) center to address the impact of COVID-19 on young children with disabilities. We recognize the continued importance of inclusion for young children with disabilities. As we embrace the “new normal” and consider the various ways in which classrooms will be opening, we are providing resources to support COVID-19, equity and inclusion.
The Texas Autism Virtual Conference will be held August 6 and 7. The conference will include two keynote speakers and breakout sessions. The goal is to provide stakeholders strategies, resources, and evidence-based practices to increase student performance and success. Participating educators are eligible to receive Continuing Professional Education (CPE) credit.
