Special Education Guidance: Progress Monitoring During Remote Learning

A training video regarding guidance around special education progress monitoring during remote learning is now available. The video is available on the TEA website through the TEA Recent Guidance site and the COVID-19 instructional guidance site, as well as the TEA YouTube site.

Special Education Reading Academies Expert Group Application Process

The Texas Education Agency is seeking applicants to serve on a special education Reading Academy expert group to review Special Education Reading Academy content and provide special education content expertise. More information about the application process for this expert panel is located on the Special Education TEA website.

Technical Assistance: Individualized Education Program (IEP) Development Guide

The new technical assistance Individualized Education Program (IEP) Development Guide has just been released as part of a series of technical assistance guides, including Child Find and Evaluation and Section 504.

This guide was written to assist educators involved in the IEP process and provides practical information as well as information about best practices. It guides individuals through the IEP process by reviewing the requirements of the law, determining why those requirements are essential, and deciding how each requirement can best be implemented.

Face Shield Considerations for On-Campus Instruction

Missed learning opportunities while wearing cloth masks will impact some student’s access to public education. Consideration should be given for some educators to  wear face shields to allow visual facial cues to be displayed while successfully maintaining physical distancing. Face shields provide access to speech reading and visual cues while simultaneously providing protection to the wearer of the face shield.

Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE)

The National Association of State Directors of Special Education (NASDSE) has partnered with the Early Childhood Technical Assistance (ECTA) center to address the impact of COVID-19 on young children with disabilities. We recognize the continued importance of inclusion for young children with disabilities. As we embrace the “new normal” and consider the various ways in which classrooms will be opening, we are providing resources to support COVID-19, equity and inclusion.

28th Annual Autism Conference—2020 Virtual Edition

The Texas Autism Virtual Conference will be held August 6 and 7. The conference will include two keynote speakers and breakout sessions. The goal is to provide stakeholders strategies, resources, and evidence-based practices to increase student performance and success. Participating educators are eligible to receive Continuing Professional Education (CPE) credit.
