Welcome to This Month in Lone Star Governance. These emails, sent the first week of each month, will highlight current events in the LSG initiative, answer frequently asked questions, and celebrate LSG successes from around the state. If there is a topic you would like to see addressed in an edition of This Month in Lone Star Governance, please let us know by emailing lsg@tea.texas.gov.
If you missed a previous issue of This Month in Lone Star Governance, you can get it on the TEA website here.
In recognition of the disruption caused by the COVID-19 emergency, the Texas Education Agency has launched a web page to help coordinate the flow of information from the state to districts, help districts solve problems, and provide guidance that will aid in districts’ decision-making.
The web page is available here.
We have launched a new web page to provide information, tools, and templates for LSG coaches and authorized providers. The new page, available here, currently offers the following:
- Link to a new form for alerting LSG staff of scheduled workshops
- Link to a new form for submitting Quarterly Reviews
- Link to updated tools and templates.
The updated tools and templates are provided in both Excel and as Acrobat PDFs. Please use the format that better suits your school systems.
The new web page—named LSG Tools and Templates—is an evolving resource. Please check back periodically for updates.
This work is part of a broader initiative to refresh all the LSG pages on the TEA website. We have already refreshed the main LSG page and continue to work on others. Please let us know what you think and of any changes that you think would be helpful.
All previously scheduled LSG workshops have been canceled with one exception: the workshop on April 24–25 in Brownsville. A decision whether to cancel this workshop will be made closer to the scheduled date.
We are working to provide the scheduled mindset training online. Potential coaches who have registered for one of these trainings will be provided further information by email.

On March 30, TEA announced that Commissioner Morath waived board training requirements until September 1, 2020. Is this simply a postponement of requirements with a six-month extension for training requirements that fall between March 2020 and August 31, 2020, or something more?
The waiver postpones the requirements for those trustees whose training had been due between March and August of 2020. The requirements for those whose retraining is due after September 1, 2020, are not affected.
