“Trending Topics in Special Education Monitoring” is a new resource for special education administrators to ensure timely access to relevant content. The first issue of “Trending Topics in Special Education Monitoring” is linked below but will also be shared through ESCs and posted to the Division of Review and Support webpage this month. You can also expect to see more information about “Trending Topics in Special Education Monitoring” in future editions of the TEA Special Education Newsletter. The content of September’s issue of “Trending Topics…” is informed by commonly asked questions and compliance challenges identified during special education monitoring by the TEA during the 2018-2019 school year. In the future, this resource will be released three times per year with topics determined based upon frequently asked questions and findings from special education monitoring activities.

ASCEND Texas is a cloud-based application to assist local education agencies (LEAs) to collect and manage special education data while navigating the Differentiated Monitoring and Support (DMS) system. Currently, the ASCEND application is accessible to Cycle I Groups I and II as test groups for the self-assessment. The Division of Review and Support will send notifications to all LEAs, who did not participate in Group I or II monitoring activities, when the ASCEND application is open for all users.
