New State Prekindergarten Assessment Reports
The 2016-17 and 2017-18 state reports for public prekindergarten (4-year-olds) assessment results in Texas are now available through the TPEIR reporting tool. Prekindergarten assessment results are shown by assessment subject for students by ethnicity, economically disadvantaged, limited English proficiency, and other student demographic data.
Instructional Materials Quality Evaluation Rubric
TEA is pleased to share the Instructional Materials Quality Evaluation (IMQE) pilot rubric. This rubric will be used by highly-trained groups of Texas educators to evaluate instructional materials for English language arts and reading (ELAR) grades 3–8 as part of the IMQE pilot. LEAs joining the pilot will receive access to this completed rubric in May 2019 for up to 45 grade level reviews of products submitted by publishers. LEAs not participating in the pilot are also welcome to use this resource as part of their local review processes, if they choose.
Revisions to the Social Studies TEKS
At the November 2018 State Board of Education (SBOE) meeting, the SBOE approved for second reading and final adoption revisions to the social studies Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS). The revisions streamline the social studies TEKS for kindergarten–grade 8 and the following high school courses: United States History Studies Since 1877, World History Studies, World Geography Studies, United States Government, and Economics with Emphasis on the Free Enterprise System and Its Benefits.
The TEKS for middle school and high school social studies will be implemented beginning with the 2019-2020 school year and the TEKS for Kindergarten–Grade 5 social studies are scheduled for implementation in the 2020-2021 school year.
The Local Accountability System (LAS) team is seeking additional districts to participate in the LAS developmental year during the 2018–19 school year. The chosen districts will receive assistance developing their LAS plan prior to submitting their plan in early spring 2019 and campus ratings by mid-July 2019. Priority will be given to districts located in regions not currently represented in the pilot which are 2, 3, 5, 6, 8, 9, 17, and 20; however, Notification of Interest forms will be considered from all regions.
