Letters of Interest for Math Innovation Zones

TEA is actively seeking participation from school districts and open-enrollment charter schools in the Math Innovation Zones initiative as established by Section 28.020 of the Texas Education Code. Letters of Interest are due by April 27th, 2018 at 5pm CDT. A notice of intent to apply is requested (although not required) by 5pm CDT on Tuesday, April 10th.

Prekindergarten Enrollment Toolkit

This toolkit offers ideas to help guide school districts and charter schools with each step in the process of recruiting, enrolling, and serving prekindergarten-eligible children and their families. The toolkit is composed of five categories: Outreach, Family Education, Registration, Expanding Access, and Community Empowerment.

Special Education Improvement Plan

A second draft plan is now available. This draft plan not only addresses the federally required corrective actions, but also describes proposed improvements to how TEA supports LEAs in the effective implementation of special education requirements. The public is invited to provide specific comments on the current proposed draft Special Education Improvement Plan in writing by emailing The comment period closes at noon on April 18th.

Final Texas ESSA State Plan

The U.S. Department of Education announced that U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos has approved the state’s Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) consolidated plan.

A-F Accountability Development

The commissioner’s final decisions for 2018 accountability are expected to be posted in early April. The 2018 Accountability Manual—expected to be published in the Texas Register for a 30-day public comment period in late May and effective early August—will provide additional details about the new accountability system.
