Competitive Grant Opportunity Published on the TEA Grant Opportunities Page

TEA is announcing the availability of grant funds for the 2018–2019 Principal Preparation grant program. Request for Application (RFA) #701-18-105 is authorized by the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), Title II, Part A. The RFA is available on the TEA Grant Opportunities Page.

Eligibility

Eligible applicants include local educational agencies (LEAs) that are eligible for 2017–2018 Title II, Part A funding. Education service centers (ESCs) may apply as fiscal agents.

Grant Period

  • April 13, 2018, through June 30, 2019

Funding

  • A total of approximately $4,677,876 is available for this grant program.
  • It is anticipated that approximately 120 grants will be awarded
  • Grant awards are expected to range from $13,000 to $130,000.

Description

This grant program seeks to provide local educational agencies (LEAs) eligible for Title II, A funding with an opportunity to build strong campus leaders through principal residencies.  LEAs that are awarded this grant will have the opportunity to identify strong principal candidates from among their current staff, partner with an effective principal preparation program that provides training focused on best practices in campus leadership, including a concentrated focus in instructional leadership, and offer those candidates authentic campus-based leadership experiences throughout their residency year.

This grant seeks to help support internal leadership pipelines within an LEA for existing staff. It is very likely that residents would be classroom teachers who have demonstrated instructional success and strong leadership potential and would remain classroom teachers during their resident year experience.

Application Deadline

Applications must be received by the Texas Education Agency by 5:00 p.m. (Central Time), March 13, 2018, to be considered for funding.
