Texas Equity Toolkit
Under ESSA, all districts receiving Title I funding will be required to submit an Equity Plan to better understand and address the challenges they face in providing equitable access to excellent teachers for low-income and minority students. Submissions for Texas Equity Plans will be from September 1st to November 1st of 2017.
The Equity Plan process is about improving student learning for every single student throughout the state. Are all students within an LEA learning at commensurate and appropriate rates? If not, what factors contribute to that, and what strategies can LEAs pursue or continue to pursue to help close those gaps?
To support districts in this process, the TEA has developed a Texas Equity Toolkit, which was built to help LEAs work through a process that leads to the identification of effective strategies that can help shrink equity gaps and improve student learning for all.
At its core, the Equity Plan process is a continuous improvement process that should have considerable overlap with the LEA’s own continuous improvement process – they likely could be done in tandem.
Additionally, all ESCs have trained staff available to provide support – click the following link to see a list of Equity Leads for all ESCs.
If a district was impacted by Hurricane Harvey and will be unable to submit their Equity Plan by the November 1st deadline, please contact brenda.garcia@tea.texas.gov.
