The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) Texas Emissions Reduction Plan (TERP) is providing advanced notice for the opening of the Texas Clean School Bus (TCSB) Program. In anticipation of the program opening, TCEQ will host a webinar on Oct. 15, 2025, to cover program requirements and the application process. The webinar is free and open to the public.

📝 How to Register: Complete the TCSB Webinar Registration Form by 5:00 p.m. (CT) on Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2025. A link to join the webinar will be emailed to you once you have completed and submitted the registration form.
Texas Clean School Bus Program
📅 Application Period: Oct. 29, 2025 - May 22, 2026, or until all available funds have been awarded
📝 Application Process: Online via TERP SUNNS
💲Total Funding Available: $16.3 million, awarded on a first-come, first-served basis
Key Program Details
✅ Grant Amounts
- Up to 80% of the eligible cost to replace an older school bus with a newer model.
- Funding is also available for the retrofit of an existing school bus.
✅ Eligible Applicants
- Texas public school districts, open-enrollment charter schools, or transportation systems provided by a countywide school district that operate one or more diesel-fueled school buses. Private schools are not eligible for this program.
✅ Eligible Replacement Projects
- Replacement of 2006 model year or older diesel-fueled school buses with buses of the current or previous model year at the time of application.
- School buses proposed for replacement must currently, and for at least the two years immediately preceding the grant application, have been owned, registered, and operated by the applicant in Texas.
- School buses proposed for replacement must currently be used on a regular daily route to and from a school during the regular school year.
✅ Eligible Retrofit Projects
- Purchase and installation of eligible retrofit systems - closed crankcase filtration systems, diesel particulate filters, or diesel oxidation catalysts.
- A school bus proposed for retrofit must currently be used on a regular daily route to and from a school during the regular school year and have at least five years of useful life remaining.
