Rediscover Bastrop State Park

Saturday, September 1 – Sunday, September 2
Bastrop State Park (near Austin)
It’s hard to believe it’s been a year since the worst wildlife in Texas history destroyed 96 percent of the 6,600-acre Bastrop State Park.

Visit the park for free Saturday, September 1, 1pm – 4pm. Find out what the future of the lost pines looks like through guided hikes, exhibits and activities for all ages. Meet firefighters who helped defend the park during last September’s wildfire, and learn how you can help the forest recover. You can also register for the September 2 Burning Pine Run (5K and 10K).

Friday, September 14 – Sunday, September 16
Caprock Canyons State Park & Trailway (Panhandle)

Roam the home of the Texas State Bison Herd during the Bison Celebration Days at Caprock Canyons State Park and Trailway. View up close the descendants of the great Southern Plains bison herd that once dominated the Great Plains. Living history encampments, an outdoor classroom field day, and a benefit barbecue lunch will keep you entertained. And a Sunday afternoon performance by Texas’ own Grammy Award-winning Asleep at the Wheel will get your toes tappin’. Bring your bike to take full advantage of the 64-mile trailway.

Thanks to these Bison Celebration Days sponsors: ASCO, Inc, Thunder Heart Bison, Texas Bison Association, First National Bank of Quitaque, and Napa Auto Parts.
