Catfish season is back! 

Catfish big enough to catch and keep are now being stocked in Neighborhood Fishin' lakes and ponds near you. These lakes are safe, fun places to introduce fishing to children (or grandchildren). Fresh stockings happen every few weeks, so you'll always have great odds of catching a fish.

Where and When to Go 

We will be stocking Neighborhood Fishin' lakes every few weeks with channel catfish from April 11-Oct. 31 (except in August) and with rainbow trout during winter. You can start catching catfish now!

What to Catch

Catfish are easy and fun to catch! This makes them perfect for fishing with kids. They especially love strong-smelling baits, including chicken livers, cut hot dogs and nightcrawlers. Did you know catfish are Texas' second-most popular species to catch?
