Try Fishing for Feisty Rainbow Trout

Rainbow trout stocking in winter is one of our most popular programs, and fishing for them has become a Texas tradition. Many of your park lakes are currently stocked with rainbows.

The trout won't survive hot weather, so now's the time to get to a park, catch a few of these tasty fish and cook 'em up with family and friends. It couldn't be easier: You can fish for free in state parks and some will even loan you fishing gear. We've also got a short video for you on How to Clean Rainbow Trout

Some parks recently stocked with rainbows include:

For pro tips, watch our short video Tips for Catching Rainbow Trout. Don't forget to bring a cooler (for storing the fish), bait and a smile!

Thanks to everyone who voted for the Centennial Parks Conservation Fund for new Texas state parks.

We know you're excited to see your new parks, but building a park is like building a city, and it takes time. To give you the opportunity to meet your new parks as soon as possible, we'll open each of them in 3 phases.

Director of State Parks Rodney Franklin shares what to expect in each phase in our short video The Excitement Is Real! Find future updates at the Centennial Parks Conservation Fund information page
