Potential Texas Dove Season Changes

The South Zone dove season has historically been restricted by federal regulations to opening no earlier than September 14th. However, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is considering removing this restriction beginning with the 2026-27 hunting season. If approved, this would give Texas Parks and Wildlife Department the option to open the South Zone regular dove season as early as September 1st, matching existing regulations for the North and Central Zones.  It would eliminate the need for the Special White-winged Dove Days that have historically occurred the first two weekends of September. The total number of days in the season will not change, and the North and Central Zones  will not be impacted by this change.

We would like dove hunters' opinions on preferred opening date and season structure for future South Zone seasons to bring to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission for consideration, if this change were to be implemented. As always, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department appreciates your assistance.
