Thank you for purchasing a Texas Hunting License
You are now part of a very special group of people carrying on a true Texan and American tradition. Whether hunting has been passed down from your family – or if you’re just getting introduced to hunting, you are in for the time of your life!
No kidding – being outside in the elements, getting up close to game animals, connecting with your family and friends, and then bringing home fresh, unprocessed meat for dinner. Does it get any better or healthier than that?
Besides actually hunting, we love nothing more than sharing all things HUNTING – especially with our newbies. So, hold on to your hat, dig in, and welcome to the wild world of Texas hunting. Now, let’s get you ready to hunt!
HUNTING PREP
Texas’ Public Hunting Program includes over a million acres and more than 180 walk-in hunting areas that you can hunt on with a $48 Annual Public Hunting Permit. These are quality TPWD sites or acreage we've leased for you. To find a new hunting spot, do a search by area or type of game.
In the classroom, online or in the field, Hunter Education (required for anyone born after Sept. 1, 1971) and the optional “Hunting 101” are worth your time. Register or search for classes. Be the smartest (and the safest) hunter on your block.
Feel excited but a little overwhelmed? Then sit back and enjoy these how-to hunt videos on planning your hunt, reading maps, shooting tips, etiquette on private and public land, etc. Move over Netflix.
Don’t end up on Lone Star Law! Download the free Outdoor Annual app or visit OutdoorAnnual.com for all the hunting regulations you need to know. You can access the regulations without internet connectivity and in the most remote locations. And use it to carry a digital copy of your license that can be used for any hunting that doesn't require tags!
HUNT'S ON!
Most game animals follow a pattern, but there are some variables that can change these patterns. Watch this video on animal activity and behavior to learn what these variables are and why you should keep them in mind while hunting.
Think fast... where's your muzzle pointing? Firearm safety requires you to know where the muzzle is pointed at all times. Follow these basic safety rules for a safe, fun and enjoyable hunting trip.
