The Whooping Cranes are Here!

The first Whooping Cranes have arrived in their Texas wintering grounds! More will be arriving through December to spend their winter months, giving you a wonderful opportunity to see these amazing birds.

Whooping Cranes are one of the rarest bird species in North America. They can reach 5 feet in height, mate for life and can live up to 24 years in the wild. Whooping cranes migrate to Texas' coastal plains near Rockport from November through March, and can be found on the Aransas Loop in the Central Texas Coast region. You can experience this special viewing opportunity by either taking a boat trip or searching for them by land.

Want to explore the world of Whooping Cranes even more closely? The 26th anniversary Whooping Crane Festival is coming to Port Aransas on February 23-26, 2023, and there's still time to join the fun. Texas Parks and Wildlife Department will even have a booth at the trade show, so swing by and say howdy!
