Recreation Grants Staff Updates - Fiscal Staff

Brian Lofgren, a 13-year veteran of the state parks budget team, is joining Rec Grants in the Fiscal Manager position.

Lofgren

Before joining TPWD, Brian worked for city parks & recreations departments coordinating learn-to-swim programs, youth & adult athletics leagues, aquatics facilities management, recreational classes, and special events, for the cities of College Station, Cedar Park, & Pearland.  He also holds a bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Parks & Tourism Sciences from Texas A&M University and an M.B.A. from University of Houston-Clear Lake.

Brian thrives on the noble work of providing opportunities for leisure services and amenities; whether it’s organizing and delivering programs or the behind scenes doing budgetary and business support.

You’ll see Brian as a frequent flyer in State Parks, trails, or ‘local’ parks with his wife, niece, and three sons, or leading a rowdy bunch of Cub Scouts on a pack camp-out.

Brian says, “I’m excited to step into new roles and career challenges and really looking forward to joining the great work, mission, and people of the Rec Grants team.”

Darrell Edgar has joined Recreation Grants as an Auditor III. Darrell has previously worked at several State Agencies, including State Auditor’s Office and Texas Lottery Commission, in addition to his time in the private sector.

Darrell was born and raised in Austin and attended Anderson HS. He has spent his life playing sports, specifically baseball, which led him to live his dream playing in college. He graduated from Texas State University with majors in Accounting and Finance.

You can typically find Darrell spending time at the ball field with his 10yr old son or taking him outdoors, especially deep-sea fishing.

Boating Access Program Accepting Proposals for Boating Infrastructure Grants

The Sportfishing and Boating Safety Act of 1998 (Public Law 105-178) established the Boating Infrastructure Grants (BIG) Program (16 United States Code (U.S.C.) 777g-1) to provide funding for the construction, renovation, and maintenance of boating infrastructure facilities for transient recreational vessels at least 26 feet long that are operated, leased, rented, or chartered primarily for pleasure. This Act amended the Dingell-Johnson Sport Fish Restoration Act (16 U.S.C. 777). Subsequent reauthorizations of the Act allow expenditures from the Sport Fish Restoration and Boating Trust Fund and the continuation of the BIG Program. Boating infrastructure means the structures, equipment, accessories, and services that are necessary or desirable for a facility to accommodate eligible vessels. Transient vessels are those passing through or by a place, staying up to 15 days. Projects completed using BIG funds must provide public access, but may be publicly or privately owned.

TPWD Boating Access Program is accepting proposals for both Tier 1 and Tier 2 Boating Infrastructure Grants (BIG).  Please click on the following links to access the Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) at Grants.Gov.
