2021 Rules Update
The Spring 2021 Great Texas Birding Classic rules have been modified to be in compliance with Governor Greg Abbott’s Executive Order GA-34 which is in effect starting March 10, 2021. The health and safety of all involved remains our top priority during the COVID-19 pandemic, and we encourage everyone to review the health recommendations from the Governor's office for outdoor events. Everyone is still strongly encouraged to wear face coverings over the nose and mouth whenever it is not feasible to maintain six feet of social distancing from anyone who is not in their household.
We have removed the 50-mile radius travel restriction - you may now bird as much or as little as you want in your region or the state, depending on your tournament category.
Intact flocks now offers more flexibility regarding teammates you can include. The Birding Classic still offers both “intact” and “dispersed” flock categories.
-
"Dispersed Flock" teams have team members who bird independently in their region or the state, depending on their tournament category. Participants may have friends they are birding with, but team members must keep their own list for the tournament.
-
“Intact Flock” teams can now travel together anywhere in their region or the state (depending on which category they entered) during their tournament day. There are no restrictions on who can bird together on an “Intact Flock” team.
Big Sit! teams no longer have a restriction on the number of birders allowed within the circle at a time. However, teams must plan their shifts to allow for appropriate social distancing. Big Sits will still have the expanded 50-foot diameter circle this year.
