This amazing new fishing and hunting extravaganza is offered as one of the premium packages in the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department's “Big Time Texas Hunts” program. It will be held this year on the new Powderhorn Wildlife Management Area (WMA), formerly known as the Powderhorn Ranch, in Calhoun County.

The Lucky Winner and Their Guest Will:

Fish for redfish and speckled trout on a guided Matagorda bay fishing trip.

Fish in Lake Powderhorn and along the Matagorda Bay shoreline as much as they like.

Be provided with all fishing bait and tackle, as well as cleaning and packaging of their catch.

Enjoy complimentary meals and lodging in the historic ranch house, which overlooks the bay, during this 2.5-day trip.

Hunt exotics (sambar and axis deer) and whitetail deer, a variety of waterfowl, and even wild hog, if they wish. If the winner prefers not to hunt, they may bring a hunting companion to enjoy this opportunity, or bring a fishing buddy.

 You’ll Hang Your Hats at the Historic Powderhorn Ranch House
The rustic ranch house is a well-known part of the fabled Powderhorn Ranch and has been for almost 100 years. It sits right on the bay, only 150 feet from the shoreline and is completely secluded. The house is made with shellcrete from local oysters and concrete and has the original wood doors and windows. Your meals will be prepared for you on site.

Formerly known as Powderhorn Ranch, the 17,351-acre Powderhorn WMA is one of the largest remaining tracts of pristine coastal prairie in Texas. Public access to Powderhorn WMA, which was donated to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department in 2018, is limited. Hundreds of species of birds and animals, including the endangered whooping crane, will provide wildlife watching opportunities galore for you and your guest.
