Friends, Partners, and Volunteers,

August wraps up another year of Buffalo Soldiers programming. Over the last few months, we adapted and overcame many program changes. Our live programs switched to online forums and we developed new online programs. Many of you became ambassadors of our program by sharing our content and attending our online sessions. We couldn’t do this work without your support!  The new digital frontier brought new friendships and new partners. Our Buffalo Soldier University (BSU) gave us a forum to work with our Buffalo Soldiers volunteers across the state.  As we move forward into a new programming year, we look forward to seeing you in the parks and online.  Contact us today for private digital programs on Buffalo Soldiers and frontier heritage. Please share our contact information with teachers and organizations that work with youth. Thank you for all that you do and, we’ll see you further down the trail…

Volunteer Spotlight

Trooper Williams

This month’s volunteer spotlight recognizes Charles Williams and the troopers of the Buffalo Soldiers National Museum.  Charles is our main point of contact when working with the museum. He is a huge advocate for Buffalo Soldiers history and outdoor heritage. Charles was also one of the historians on PBS's American Experience program on The Big Burn of 1910 helping tell the story of how buffalo soldiers from the 25th Infantry were sent to help fight wildfires in Idaho and Montana.

Trooper Williams always goes the extra mile to relay information and gather the troops for training and programming opportunities. The dedication and passion displayed by Trooper Trooper Williams, Trooper Paige, Trooper Driver, Trooper Parker, and countless others is quite remarkable.  Troopers from the Buffalo Soldier Museum have assisted in programming at Lake Brownwood State Park, Sheldon Lake State Park and Battleship Texas near Houston and Lake Mineral Wells State Park & Trailway near Dallas. They continually go the extra mile in their commitment to preserving the states cultural and natural resources and sharing the resources with the youth of Texas.

Thank you for all that you do, and we look forward to a continued relationship with you all.  If you haven’t had the opportunity to visit the Buffalo Soldiers National Museum in Houston Texas, we recommend placing this on your to do list. Currently the Buffalo Soldier National Museum is closed due to Covid-19 but they have several online exhibitions you can view. When the museum opens again you can find them in Houston's Museum District at:

Keep Connected

Texas Buffalo Soldiers bring history to life with stories, costumes and tools.

At one of our programs, you can learn how to track an animal, fish with a cane pole or cook over a campfire. We play traditional games, use the sun to find directions, learn Native American skills, and even saddle a horse.

We make connections between history and the outdoors. Our goal is to not only share history, but to share our Story.

Follow us on FacebookTwitter or Instagram and help share our story!
