Welcome to Bowhunter by Fall!

White-tailed deer

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department’s Community Archery Team is excited that you have joined us on the mission to become a “Bowhunter by Fall”. Between now and the fall hunting seasons, we will provide you with videos, links and resources and with some work contributed by you, you will be ready for the field and discover how to become a Bowhunter by this Fall!

Archery hunting is part of our great heritage and has been around for thousands of years.  It’s exciting, adventurous, a definite stress reliever, and safer than most other outdoor activities.  If you are like most people who are new to the sport, you are not sure how to get started. Let us help! Follow along with us month by month, and you’ll be ready for your first archery season!  The plan is simple, and you can start the process anytime, but be sure to start at the beginning and work your way through to be ready to take your first shot, with confidence.

In each communication you receive from us we will highlight useful information from our partners in the sport or from our staff through video, discussion and links. You can expect another e-mail from us in a few days that jumps into the first steps, like understanding the benefits of hunter education and a hunting mentor, or finding a friend with a few hunting seasons under their belt. That will be followed later in May by some “essential gear” suggestions and more.

You can help us to make the included content more specific to you. Tell us more about yourself in a 3 minute, 7 question, survey.

Now that we have whet your appetite, check out a few more topics and links below. We hope you let your imagination wander and you can picture yourself in a tree stand or ground blind. Can you smell the breeze through the trees yet?
