Rec Grants Announces New Grant Deadlines and Grant Writing Workshops

Texas Parks & Wildlife Department Recreation Grants Branch will soon be accepting applications for their Local Parks Program and Community Outdoor Outreach Program (CO-OP) grants.  December 4, 2019 is the next grant deadline for grants to be awarded in 2020. Applications will open mid-September and only be accepted through our Rec Grants Online portal.

Recreation Grants staff will host a series of grant writing workshops to introduce the scoring criteria implemented with these applications.  Workshops will discuss program requirements, provide an overview of the application process and answer questions from applicants.  Those unable to attend an in-person grant writing workshop will have the opportunity to participate in an online webinar.  The two programs offering workshops are detailed below, please ensure you sign up for the correct grant program workshop for your organization.

The Local Park Grant Program consists of 5 individual programs that assist local units of government with the acquisition and/or development of public recreation areas and facilities throughout the State of Texas. The Program provides 50% matching grants on a reimbursement basis to eligible applicants. All grant assisted sites must be dedicated as parkland in perpetuity, properly maintained and open to the public.  The deadline is December 4, 2019. New Fiscal Section Manager

Pamela Kaby

Recreation Grants is pleased to welcome our new Fiscal Section Manager, Pam Kaby. Pam is not only new to TPWD but to Texas as well, having moved here from Niceville, Florida after accepting the position of Fiscal Manager in Recreation Grants. The previous thirteen years, she had been the Controller for Northwest Florida State College, where she had a leadership role in budget development, grant accounting & reporting, and fiscal-stewardship of state appropriated funds.   She has a bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Pittsburg State University, Pittsburg, KS, and brings over 20 years of governmental and grant accounting experience to her new position.   She is currently pursuing her Masters of Accounting from University of Auburn.

Her personal core values are grounded in responsible stewardship of our resources, natural and financial, so being offered a position with TPWD is as close to a dream job as it gets for an accountant.  Animal rescue is near & dear to her heart and she now shares her home with 2 of her foster ‘fails’; Gracie, her grumpy old kitty, and her sidekick, Sloane.  In her spare time, Pam is an avid kayaker and hiker.  She is looking forward to spending the weekends exploring our beautiful parks.
