Biking is an excellent way to tour your state parks. Whether you're a beginner or advanced rider, we have trails for all levels. If you don't own a mountain bike, some parks offer bike rentals or have rentals available nearby. Check out this list of bike trails by area. Then try out the bike trails at these parks this spring:

Spring brings rain, so call parks to check trail conditions before you head out. It's important that we protect bike trails from erosion, and riding muddy trails creates ruts. Here are more tips on how to be a considerate mountain biker

Pro tip #1: Parks get busy in spring (wildflowers!) so make reservations early to get a campsite.

5 Parks Perfect for Watching Wild Birds

Texas has over 600 varieties of birds, more than almost any other state. About half of them are seasonal, stopping here as they travel to and from winter homes. State parks the perfect places to spy on our exotic guests. A few, like Bentsen-Rio Grande Valley, are so rich with unusual birds they've become world-renowned destinations.

Check the calendar for guided bird walks and other birding events at parks near you. The Great Texas Birding Classic takes place April 15 to May 15. It's a fun, easy way to get outdoors with friends or family and see some beautiful birds. Why not put together a team and compete in the State Park Tournament? Sign up by April 1.
