Hey RVers, We've Got 50 Amp Service

RV at Lake Arrowhead

If you own an RV, you know that the more electricity you can access, the more appliances you can run at the same time. The pinnacle of campsite power is 50 amp service, and quite a few of your state parks have it, including these 5 favorites:

  1. Davis Mountains
  2. Lake Livingston
  3. Lake Whitney
  4. Ft. Richardson
  5. Abilene

If you're touring in a group, check individual parks for the number of 50 amp hookups available. The most economical way to tour parks is with a Texas State Parks Pass. It gives you and everyone in your vehicle unlimited free entry for a year AND discounts on camping.

If you love RV life, or the idea of it, check out our video about a traveling photographer living the life in her vintage teardrop camper.

You Say You Want a Resolution? Volunteer!

College student volunteer video link

If you want a New Year's resolution that will help you and the world around you, resolve to volunteer at a state park. Check our volunteer opportunities for something that appeals to you. You can even live at some parks in exchange for being a park host, like the college student in this video.

Hurricane Harvey Clean-up and Restoration calls for volunteers statewide, but most opportunities are in specific places. Some of these are: Kayaking Tour Guide at Eisenhower and Coastal Expo Volunteer at Lake Corpus Christi – and there are many more.

We also need help with with projects like Creating a Pollinator Garden at Village Creek or CCC Restoration Work at Daingerfield

Volunteers contributed 620,769 hours in 2017 and your parks wouldn't be the same without them. It's fun to help out, join us!

Post-Harvey Parks Update

Goose Island State Park sign

Harvey's wind and water damaged 14 of your state parks. Today, most are open or partially open. Even coastal Goose Island reopened some areas on Jan. 1. Check the status of any park with the alert map or on the park's webpage

Mustang Island and Stephen F. Austin are the last two state parks still completely closed due to hurricane Harvey's devastation. If you'd like to help your parks' ongoing recovery, please volunteer or  donate online.

Scenes of Winter

snowman at Galveston Island State Park

We don't see a lot of snow in the lower half of Texas, so the recent wintry weather created unique photo ops, like this snowman from Galveston Island. We've gathered a few of our favorites and put them in a Facebook album. Enjoy!

You can also find and share special state park photos (snowy and otherwise) on our Instagram and on our Twitter. Follow us! Many individual state parks also have their own social media accounts  the entire list is on our website.

Insider Tip:

Check the park alerts map when planning a park visit. It lets you know if a park's being impacted by things like weather, water levels, construction, damage or hunts conducted for wildlife management.
