Season's Greetings!

Fall is upon us, the leaves are changing, the air has gotten cooler, the sunsets earlier and it is a time to stop and give thanks for the blessings in life.  The Buffalo Soldiers certainly have many things to be thankful for. We are thankful of the veterans whom we all honored on the Nov. 11th, Veterans Day. We are thankful for all the amazing volunteers that help the TPWD Buffalo Soldier Program in so many ways. We are thankful that Sgt. Padilla has rejoined the team after being away on medical leave. We are also thankful that 20 plus years later that our Buffalo Soldier Program is still able to travel the Great State of Texas and share the history of all the Great Peoples of Texas!

November was a very busy month for the Buffalo Soldiers.  We visited Mother Neff State Park; the motherland so to speak of the Texas State Park system. Lt. Dolifka went out on campaign to Lost Maples SNA and Pedernales Falls SP while Pvt. Mack marched in the Veterans Day parade with many of our volunteers and then helped train some potential lively new recruits at Palmetto State Park.

December looks to just as busy so if you are ready for an adventure come join us out on the trail. Don't forget to spend time with those you love and enjoy all the holiday goodies and festivities. Despite being out on the frontier the soldiers always made the best of things and enjoyed some holiday cheer the best they could.

Wherever this Holiday Season may take you the Texas Buffalo Soldiers want to wish you all the best!

Ready Forward! We Can.. We Will!

Fun Fact

Did you know...

On June 17th, 1871 the former Civil War General Abner Doubleday, now a Colonel in command of the 24th US Infantry's "Colored Regiment", Fort McKavett, TX, addresses a request to General ED Townsend, Adjutant General, US Army, Washington, DC: "I have the honor to apply for permission to purchase for the Regimental Library a few portraits of distinguished generals, Battle pictures, and some of Rogers groups of Statuary particularly those relative to the actions of the Colored population of the south. This being a colored regiment ornaments of this kind seem very appropriate. I would also like to purchase baseball implements for the amusement of the men and a Magic Lantern for the same purpose. The fund is ample and I think these expenditures would add to the happiness of the men."

Keep Connected

Texas Buffalo Soldiers bring history to life with stories, costumes and tools.

At one of our programs, you can learn how to track an animal, fish with a cane pole or cook over a campfire. We play traditional games, use the sun to find directions, learn Native American skills, and even saddle a horse.

We make connections between history and the outdoors. Our goal is to not only share history, but to share our Story.

Follow us on FacebookTwitter or Instagram and help share our story!
