Soldier Hiking

From the Sargent's Desk

The Buffalo Soldier's Campaign this past February for African American History Month proved to and arduous but successful endeavor. With the help of our partners we programmed at seven schools, six state parks, one church, and one musuem all across Texas. We shared the story of the Buffalo Soldiers countless times along the trail. We want to thank everyone for welcoming us into their schools, parks, etc. Without out your support we couldn't have made it happen.

March is upon us now and Spring has Sprung! Everything is turning green or is bursting into every color imaginable! It is now time to Get Outside and Explore! There are lots of chances to do just that all across this Great State of Texas.

I challenge you all to Get Outside, enjoy the fresh air, visit your favorite park or maybe one you have never been to before! The Buffalo Soldiers will be at various parks and historic sites all throughout the March and April.

We look forward to seeing y'all out on the trail!

Ready Forward! We Can.. We Will!

Buffalo Soldier Fun Fact....

Did you know...

When the Buffalo Soldier Regiments were formed the Army tasked the Chaplin's with the job of educating these new soldiers. One of the Chaplin's assigned the 9th Cavalry was Allen Allensworth. Allensworth, who had been a slave was a Teacher, a Pastor, and he served in the Army for 20 years and was the first African American to reach the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.

Keep Connected

Texas Buffalo Soldiers bring history to life with stories, costumes and tools.

At one of our programs, you can learn how to track an animal, fish with a cane pole or cook over a campfire. We play traditional games, use the sun to find directions, learn Native American skills, and even saddle a horse.

We make connections between history and the outdoors. Our goal is to not only share history, but to share our Story.

Follow us on FacebookTwitter or Instagram and help share our story!
