Holidays in the Park!

Tis' the season to visit a Texas State Park! State parks from every corner of the Texas are hosting more than 60 festive events, including hayrides, s'more making, lantern-lit tours and dog-friendly hikes. Austin

Thanksgiving Hike at Enchanted Rock (Nov. 26) - Join a park ranger for a hike to the summit....and beyond. Burn off calories before you put them on!

Trail of Lights at Monument Hill and Kreische Brewery (Dec. 5,11,12,18 and 19) - Celebrate Christmas in early Texas-German style. Enjoy a beautifully illuminated quarter-mile trail and the home of H.L. Kreische decorated in traditional Texas-German 1850s-era Christmas splendor.

Decorated Campsite

Dutch Oven Cooking: History in a Black Pot at Tyler (Dec. 5) - Learn the basics of the fine art of historic camp cooking with cast iron and enjoy tasty Christmas cuisine. 

Christmas in the Park at Lake Bob Sandlin (Dec. 11-12) - Come see the park all decked out in holiday lights! Plus, enjoy hot chocolate, crafts and a chance to meet Santa. Campers who decorate their sites get to camp for free starting on Wednesday, Dec. 9, to Sunday, Dec. 13.

Howl-iday Hounds Hike at Franklin Mountains (Dec. 12) - Celebrate the holidays with your pooch and take a dog-friendly hike along the Lower Sunset Trail. Come decked out in Santa hats and festive attire for both you and your four-legged companion.

Last Sunday Hike: Santa Hike at Wyler Aerial Tramway (Dec. 27) - Finish 2015 on a high note with the last Sunday hike of the year. Hike one mile up Ranger Peak and ride the Tramway down the mountain after enjoying the great view from the top.

A Sailor's Christmas at Battleship Texas (Dec. 12) - Come see this historic Navy vessel decorated just as the crew did while serving their country aboard. Kids of all ages can have their pictures taken with Santa or transmit a message to the North Pole from the Ship’s Post Office.

A Simple Christmas at Brazos Bend (Dec. 5)Enjoy the simple life: making s’mores, Dutch oven cooking, Victorian-era games, hayrides and a visit from a “Southern Santa.” Cap off the evening with “The Brazos River Pickers” old-time, bluegrass band.

Thanksgiving Turkey Shoot at Choke Canyon (Nov. 28) - Learn the basics of archery, including proper aiming and shooting techniques, in this Thanksgiving-themed class.

Old Fashioned Holiday Taffy Pull at Palmetto (Dec. 19) - Get ready for some holiday candy making fun as we make batches of homemade taffy. Explore some of the different taffy recipes from the Depression era and WWII.
