Local Parks & Boating Access Grants Deadline – October 1, 2015

Recreation Grants is now accepting applications for the Urban Outdoor, Non-urban Outdoor, and Small Community Local Park Grant Programs through October 1, 2015. We are also now accepting applications for the Boating Access Program.  This grant program provides 75% matching grant funds for the construction of public boat ramp facilities throughout Texas. Local government sponsors must make an application, provide the land, provide access to the proposed boat ramp, supply 25% of the development costs, and accept operation and maintenance responsibilities for a minimum 25-year period. These funds are allocated annually through the federal Sport Fish Restoration Act.   The maximum amount which may be requested for assistance is $500,000 in matching grant funds.

Recreation Grants NEW STAFF!

Erick

Erick Hetzel is one of two new State Park Trail Coordinators that will head up the State Park Trails Program.  Erick has more than 8 years of trail building, project and construction management experience.  He most recently held the position at American Youthworks / Texas Conservation Corps of field coordinator for our Trails Across Texas (state parks) trail crew.  Erick has good relationships with many current park superintendents in our system and is very familiar with our state park trail needs.  He is a USFS certified trail tractor (dozer) and mini-excavator operator as well as a skilled skid-steer operator.  The Recreational Trail Program and the State Park Trails Program will benefit greatly with Erick joining our team! 

 

Chris

Chris Sheffield is one of two new State Park Trail Coordinators that will head up the State Park Trails Program.  Chris has more than 15 years of trail building, project, construction and program management experience.  He most recently held the position at American Youthworks / Texas Conservation Corps of Program Director. 

Chris graduated from the Ohio State University with a degree in Communication and Natural Resource Management in 1998 before coming to work with the Student Conservation Association at Guadalupe Mountains National Park in West Texas.  Chris worked over 15 years with American YouthWorks in Austin, Texas, growing the Texas Conservation Corps program, which he directed for the past 5 years.  Chris will be a great asset to the Recreational Trail Program and the State Park Trails Programs!

 

Robin

We are pleased to announce Robin Kolton back to the State Park team. Robin has a Bachelor's Degree in Business from the Tarleton State University.  From 2005 to 2011 Robin worked in the Recreation Grants branch in the fiscal section and during those six (6) years she became very familiar with the Boating Access grant program.  She has four (4) years of experience working as a grant management specialist and has successfully obtained and managed boating access grants for local government clients.  Robin has four (4) years experience as an internal auditor for two different state agencies and is a certified grant management specialist.  Also, Robin is also an avid boater! 

The Boating Access Program and the Recreation Grants Branch will benefit greatly with Robin joining our team!
