Today, METRO announced that the Cesar Chavez/67th Street METRORail station on the Green Line in Houston's East End will be renamed the Joe E. Ramirez METRORail station, following the City of Houston's recent street name change. The renaming was previously approved by the METRO Board of Directors.
The name change reflects METRO's commitment to maintaining consistency across the region's transportation network while honoring the legacy of Joe E. Ramirez, an American veteran and respected community leader whose contributions have had a lasting impact on Houston's East End.
"Aligning with the city's update ensures clarity for our riders and reinforces our connection to the communities we serve," said METRO Board Chair Elizabeth Gonzalez Brock.
New station signage will be installed. Maps, schedules, and digital customer information systems will also be updated to reflect the new name. Riders will be encouraged to familiarize themselves with the new station name as part of their regular commute.
