The Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County (METRO) is expanding airport access in Houston with new service to William P. Hobby Airport (HOU) on the 500 Downtown Direct. Beginning Feb. 22, 2026, the route will also add new stops in downtown Houston, further enhancing connectivity for riders.
The updated route continues to serve the George R. Brown Convention Center (GRB), while adding stops at the Downtown Transit Center and other key downtown locations. Service to George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) is maintained, creating a direct link between both major airports and the city center.
“This is METRONow in action—making it easier for people to choose METRO,” said Chair Elizabeth Gonzalez Brock. “As we prepare to welcome the world for the FIFA World Cup, we’re building connectivity that will serve Houston long after the final match. This is about lasting access that strengthens our region every day.”

The route maintains a $4.50 one-way fare and features comfortable seating and complimentary Wi-Fi, providing a convenient, cost-effective travel experience.
“For many passengers, the journey starts long before the ticket counter,” said Jim Szczesniak, director of aviation for Houston Airports. “Extending the 500 Downtown Direct offers a reliable, affordable connection between downtown and HOU. It reduces stress, improves access and ensures every visitor is greeted with Houston-friendly hospitality in an organized, world-class environment that reflects who we are as a global gateway."
