Release Date: Jan. 15, 2026 Media Hot Line: 713-739-4040
METRO will adjust rail service on the Red Line on Saturday, Jan. 17 and Sunday, Jan. 18, 2026 to complete critical maintenance work that can only be performed when trains are not operating.
Under the METRONow plan, METRO is prioritizing maintenance across the rail system. These service adjustments allow crews to safely access tracks and infrastructure to make repairs that are essential to improving reliability, reducing future disruptions and keeping trains running on time.
During the closure, METRO will update and conduct point-to-point testing of a core technology that monitors train movements and track conditions along the rail line. The system requires comprehensive updates every 10 years to maintain reliability, accuracy and safe operations.
To accommodate riders, frequent shuttle buses will replace rail service in the affected area.
Buses will operate every 10 minutes between Northline Transit Center / HCC Station and Downtown Transit Center Station. View shuttle map.
Riders may see a single train operating in the work zone during this period. The train is being used exclusively for system testing and will not carry passengers.
