METRO is expanding a safety partnership systemwide that increases coordinated law enforcement presence across the transit system, reinforcing the agency’s commitment to customer and employee safety under its new vision, METRONow.
The expansion builds on a partnership launched last year and reflects a renewed and sustained focus on safety following the appointment of METRO Police Chief Ban Tien. The initiative strengthens coordination with regional law enforcement agencies to enhance visibility, response, and coordination throughout the system.
The enhanced safety effort launched in November 2025 with increased officer presence along the Red Line and expanded to the Green and Purple Lines in December. METRO will continue this initiative across the system, including on buses, at transit facilities, and in high-ridership areas.
As part of this effort, METRO is coordinating patrol and enforcement activities with the following agencies:
- Houston Police Department
- Harris County Sheriff’s Office
- Harris County Constable’s Office, Precinct 1
- Harris County Constable’s Office, Precinct 6
- Harris County Constable’s Office, Precinct 7
Riders may notice additional uniformed officers on trains, platforms, buses, and at transit centers. All assisting officers are operating in coordination with the METRO Police Department as part of a unified, systemwide safety strategy.
“Our number one priority is the safety of our riders, operators, and employees,” said METRO Police Chief Ban Tien. “Through METRONow and with the support of our regional partners, we are increasing visibility, strengthening response capabilities, and reinforcing confidence in METRO as a welcoming and reliable transportation option.”
By leveraging coordinated patrol strategies and regional partnerships, METRO is focused on supporting current riders while encouraging new customers by emphasizing that safety is central to the customer experience—so riders are not only safe, but feel safe throughout their entire trip.
