METRO is moving forward with Community Connector, continuing full service and strengthening the on-demand microtransit program as it advances plans for expansion across the region. Demand for the fast-growing service continues to rise.
Riders, especially those who depend on transit the most, are using Community Connector to overcome first- and last-mile barriers. The service connects customers to jobs, education, healthcare, grocery stores, recreation, and METRO’s bus and rail network in communities where fixed-route service alone has not been enough.
For riders, the experience remains seamless. Customers will continue to see the same vehicles, use the same app, and receive the same level of customer service they rely on today.
Effective in January 2026, METRO assumed full oversight of Community Connector through its contractor, MV Transportation. This structure positions the agency to fully integrate the service into its broader on-demand network, ensure ADA compliance, and operate the program within a sustainable, long-term framework that supports future growth.
“Community Connector is delivering the kind of transit our customers have been asking for—flexible, reliable, and designed around how people actually move,” said METRO Interim President and CEO Tom Jasien. “We’re continuing service and building toward expansion because this program is working, and because access to opportunity depends on strong first- and last-mile connections.”
METRO will continue collecting rider feedback and performance data as Community Connector moves toward full integration into the agency’s transit network. Future expansion will be guided by customer demand, community input, and METRO’s commitment to modern, accessible mobility solutions that reflect how the Houston region moves today.
